Recap of the Talk with Nabeel and Reminder of the Upcoming Class

Wanted to offer a quick recap of the talk we had with Nabeel and also remind everyone about the study on No God But One coming up on Tuesday March 28th.

Recap of the Talk with Nabeel

Thanks so much to those who were able to come out on Friday March 17 for the Skype conversation we had with Nabeel Qureshi. We had over 100 people in attendance and everyone I heard from really enjoyed the evening! The conversation was recorded but I'm waiting on Nabeel's approval before sharing it. I'll be sure to let you all know when it is available!

We mostly structured the conversation around his book, No God But One that we will be using for our follow-on study. Nabeel spoke about the differences between Christianity and Islam with respect to Sharia & the Gospel, Tawhid & the Trinity, the Quran & the Bible. Muhammad & Jesus, and more.

Nabeel went on to offer some results of his own investigation into the truth claims of Christianity and Islam. Interestingly, Christianity's main truth claims about Jesus' death, resurrection, and deity are explicitly denied by Islam. For Islam, the Quran's divine nature and Muhammad's prophethood were the main truth claim Nabeel investigated. We will study these topics and more in detail during the follow-on study of No God But One.

We left about 30 minutes for Q&A and we had some really good questions on topics like the violent nature of some Muslims, how to share the gospel with Muslim friends, and the Trinity.

I was especially pleased with how we were able to bookend the evening. We opened by collectively praying for Nabeel as he fights against stage 4 stomach cancer. We ended by hearing Nabeel share the beauty of the gospel in response to the question, "is it [conversion to Christianity from Islam] worth the cost?" These really centered the evening on deeper, spiritual matters, more than just an academic curiosity about Islam. We were all especially moved to hear Nabeel speak about the infinite value of Jesus against which no suffering can compare.

Again, thanks to everyone who supported this event!

Reminder about Upcoming Study

If you would like to learn more about Islam and Christianity, you are more than welcome to join us in the study of Nabeel's book No God But One.

We will meet for 6 weeks starting Tuesday March 28th, 6:30 to 8pm in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Zion's Education Building (1643 E. Churchville Rd, Bel Air, MD). Getting a copy of No God But One is not required but definitely encouraged; same goes for any reading before the meetings.

All are welcome to participate in the study. If you have any questions or comments, let me know. Hope to see you there!
