"From Mormonism to Christianity" Recap

Where did I come from?

Why am I here?

Where am I going?

These are life's big questions and on Saturday October 8th James Walker, a former fourth generation Mormon, shared the Mormon answers to life's big questions.

James gave us a crash course in Mormonism as he walked us through his previous life as a Mormon. Along the way he identified key differences between Mormonism and Christianity and asked us to recognize if Mormon theology was a restoration of original Christianity (as it claims) or if it is something different. He compared it to restoring an old '57 Chevy. If you put in a lot of time, effort, and worked really hard but the final result looked like a Winnebago, we'd have to conclude you didn't really restore the car back to original, you made something different. That was James' conclusion about Mormonism.

James did a fantastic job overall. His talk was incredibly interesting and engaging such that many of the approximately 40 people in attendance stayed to talk and ask questions for well over an hour after his talk concluded.

The talk was recorded and it is being processed. Once that is complete, I will post the video. I'd encourage everyone to check it out when it's available.

As a reminder, we'll be offering a 6-week study of "Christianity Contrasted to Mormonism" where we will be identifying those key differences and developing a defense of the Christian position. That study will start on Monday November 7th, from 7-8:30pm. We will meet in room 13-15 of the education building at Mt. Zion UMC. All are invited to attend!

Finally, thanks so much to everyone who helped make Saturday's event successful! I pray that it emboldens us as Christians to be confident as we reach out with love to share the gospel
